Stakeholder interaction for sustainable development: How can researchers more effectively communicate and engage with policy-making and wider society

Workshop, Socialt, Möte

In this seminar for researchers and PhD students at Chalmers and University of Gotheburg you will have a chance to deepen your knowledge about the opportunities and barriers to research communication and engagement. You will learn about stakeholder interaction and get a chance to discuss what you need in order to effectively communicate and engage with policy-making and wider society. Last but not least you will be introduced to the museum exhibition Human Nature and hear from some of the researchers who have been involved.

Nine out of ten Swedish researchers are positive towards communicating and engaging with wider society. Many of us, however, are hindered by a lack of time, resources and knowledge about how to engage in an efficient way. How can we overcome the barriers and be more strategic in how we chose to engage, in order to contribute to a sustainable development? Join us for a seminar and network meeting to learn, discuss and socialize.

"I want to, but I don´t have time"
In October 2019, Vetenskap och allmänhet VA (the Swedish non-profit organisation Public & Science) presented the results of the biggest ever study conducted among Swedish researchers concerning their views on communication and engagment with wider society. As suggested by the title of the report "I want to, but I don´t have time" the study shows that a majority of researchers in Sweden want to spend more time on communicating about their research, but are hindered by a lack of time and resources. The study also shows that many researchers want more personal knowledge on how to communicate effectively and more invitations to participate in communication activities.
