Goal 1 is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere.
Poverty covers more dimensions of sustainable development than merely the economic. Poverty also means a lack of freedom, power, influence, health, education and physical safety. It's not uncommon to talk about multidimensional poverty. Women and girls are particularly at risk. It is important that all countries are included regardless of their economic status, since there are poor people even in rich and middle-income countries. Eradicating poverty is fundamental to enabling people to fully enjoy their human rights.

Sida’s Helpdesk for Environment and Climate Change is commissioned by Sida – the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency – to assist Sida staff in integrating environmental perspectives into Swedish development cooperation. The Helpdesk gives support, on demand, by providing advice and strategic guidance on environmental integration at policy, program and project level.

The overall objective of EfD is to support poverty alleviation and sustainable development by building environmental economics capacity in policy making processes.
