The sustainability week Act Sustainable is here again! Book November 15–19 in all your calendars, Chalmers University of Technology's and the University of Gothenburg's sustainability week is back. Once again students, researchers, teachers, and other staff at the universities will have a whole week packed with inspiration, research, and knowledge for sustainable development. If the situation allows, the event will be arranged with physical meetings right here in Gothenburg.
Mark November 15-19 in your calendars for a whole week of sustainable development. Chalmers University of Technology´s and the University of Gothenburg's sustainability week Act Sustainable is back this autumn. The planning is “in full swing”, but still in the start-up phase. The dates are set and the model for the week can be partially recognized from Act Sustainable 2020.
- We are in full swing with the planning, so program details and the theme are still secret. But what I can reveal is that the program items will be set up as morning, lunch, and afternoon sessions. Our ambition is that the lunch sessions will be reserved exclusively for student organizers. This arrangement was an audience favourite last year and we really want to meet our audience in this! Says Karin Bylund, project manager for Act Sustainable.
Act Sustainable is Chalmers University of Technology´s and the University of Gothenburg's largest sustainability event and is aimed at students, researchers, teachers, and other staff at the universities. Everyone is welcome to participate and the program content usually represents a diversity of the academy's perspectives, the different entry points of research and the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge and collaboration to tackle society's major challenges.
During the week, the Research Network for Sustainable Development at Chalmers University of Technology, and the University of Gothenburg plans to arrange a roundtable discussion for researchers.
- During the Act Sustainable week, I'm planning a Researchers Roundtable for Sustainability. I will invite researchers to discuss how individual researchers and research groups can contribute to sustainable transitions/transformations. The roundtable event will be introduced by examples from researchers representing Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg, followed by roundtable discussions in smaller groups with all participants, says Caroline Peterson, network coordinator for the Research Network for Sustainable Development at GMV.
The organizers hope the week can be carried out in a way where participants can, and feel safe, to meet physically on-site here in Gothenburg. Whether this will be possible will be determined by the current situation with the spread of infection and restrictions. If a physical event isn’t possible, other options will be presented.
- We really hope that it will be possible, and feel safe, to meet physically. I think we all long for that. If the situation in November allows it and feel safe, Act Sustainable will be open in a sustainability arena here in Gothenburg where we can gather and meet each other physically. If, on the other hand, it is a situation where crowds are not suitable, we will of course need to meet in other ways, says Karin Bylund.
- If current restrictions are lifted, I hope to be able to round off the Round Table talks with a dinner for the participants who are members of the Research Network for Sustainable Development, says Caroline Petersson.
The work of gathering co-organizers, concept ideas, and events is currently underway. Do you want to arrange an event on Act Sustainable 2021?
