A project to redefine the mission for Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (GMV) has been ongoing since October 2021. The President at Chalmers and the Vice-chancellor at University of Gothenburg decided at that point to start a process with the aim of developing GMV's role and function. The aim is to be able to carry out a more well-defined collaborative task. A clearer assignment is now being developed by the project group together with the steering group in dialogue with affected partners.
The project is led by Pam Fredman, former Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gothenburg, and since May 2022 Acting Director of GMV. The project's steering group consists of representatives from both universities. One of the goals is to streamline GMV's mission and to become Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg's main platform for collaboration around sustainable development issues. A review is also carried out to see whether certain parts of current activities could be transferred to other parts of the universities. One of the reasons for the change is that sustainable development increasingly is being integrated and pursued within all parts of both universities. Roles therefore needs to be clarified.
Project manager Pam Fredman is now developing a concept for how a renewed organization with a new assignment could be formulated. The task also includes investigating which activities would benefit to be moved to either of the universities, for example to the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. As well as how the current environmental management unit could be transferred to the University of Gothenburg. The work takes place in close dialogue with the management at both universities and relevant partners within and outside academia.
The project should be completed by 2022-12-31.

At GMV there is great expertise and experience to support and develop sustainability collaboration between academia and societal actors. The project goal is now to find ways to strengthen work with sustainability issues within universities and in society, locally, regionally and globally, says Pam Fredman.
