Meeting
The pandemic has been a global tragedy, for economies and human well-being. Yet, positive side effects are clearer skies and reduced emissions in some urban areas. At this roundtable for sustainbility we invite researchers, urban planners and others from the Global North and South to discuss actions for improving air quality and reduce the climate impact of cities.
Warmly welcome to this roundtable discussion, organized by the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development (GMV) projects and networks: Gothenburg Air and Climate Network (GAC), Centre for Sustainable Urban Futures, Global Sustainable Futures (GSF) and Sustainable Development Solutions Network Northern Europe (SDSN-NE).
The roundtable will be introduced by a presentation by Johan Mellqvist, Professor, at the Department of Space, Earth and Environment and coordinator for Gothenburg Air and Climate Network (GAC) who will give us a global outlook of how air quality and the climate impact of cities has been affected by the pandemic. This will be followed by short remarks from urban planners and researchers representing both the Global North and South focusing on what we can learn from the pandemic in order to improve air quality and the climate impact of cities.
Last but not least you will be invited to join a digital roundtable discussion with a smaller group, where you will continue to discuss what researchers, practitioners and others can do to make sure our new knowledge, experiences and available investments are used to build back better.
